..Stay Motivated Sheltering at Home-Part 1

Did you start with gusto and get things done during the first few weeks but now find your motivation and productivity waning? Is it even hard to get up and dressed each day?

Although I have been coaching online since 2014, I too am noticing that my focus, motivation, and energy are starting to lag.

In this special series, I will share some of my favorite ideas to help you stay motivated during this time of transition.

Key #1 Create a consistent daily schedule that includes waking, exercising and sleeping at the same time

During the COVID-19 Corona shelter at home, it can be easy to lose whatever routine you may have had when working. You may be tempted to think that you do not need to have a consistent routine or that having one will rob you of spontaneity. The truth is quite the opposite!  When we bog our minds down having to make continuous small, insignificant decisions, like when should I exercise and what to eat for lunch it robs us of precious vital energy.

Reduce the Number of Decisions You Make

The average person makes thousands of decisions. Simplify your decision-making processes by building habits. Many high power successful people have figured this out. Barack Obama wears only gray or blue suits. Mark Zuckerberg has 100s of gray t-shirts and of course, we all recognize Steve Jobs’ black turtleneck and jeans. Limiting the number of decisions you make on a daily basis will reduce the tendency to procrastinate. It will also save you time and energy.  Your mind will then be open to create and focus on more rewarding tasks. You become more efficient, motivated and productive.

Include Self-Care

It is important that your daily routine includes self-care, fun and personal growth.  Even though you are home and no one may see you take time to get dressed in a way that makes you feel attractive and confident.  “Dress for success” works even when you are working from home.

Have a Morning Spiritual Practice

I have found that the quality of my day follows the quality of my morning spiritual practice.  My experience has been that when I have a consistent morning routine that includes exercise, prayer, and personal development I am happier, healthier and have greater peace.

Organize and Plan Ahead

One way I do this by using the Prosper Daily Plan I created.  I complete this single sheet form fresh each day.  There is a place a the top for my morning spiritual practice including prayer, mediation, reading affirmations, declarations, wins, and what I am grateful for.  Each day I also complete the portion with my Mission (how I serve), my Mark (goal) and my Method (plan, how I accomplish the goal).  Writing these down fresh each day keeps helps me keep the main thing the main thing.  From these I am then able to complete my will do section broken into 20-minute chunks. Whatever method you use the important thing is creating a habit of consistency.

Don’t Forget to Sleep

Another benefit of having a daily routine is your quality of sleep. It has been proven we need to get a minimum of seven to eight hours of sleep. Having a consistent routine allows you to schedule in that quality sleep time. Without a regular sleep time, it is easy to get sucked into a Netflix binge or endless social media scroll and hit the hay far too late. Poor sleep weakens our immune system, ages us prematurely and leads to a less productive day the next day. It has also been shown that those with an interrupted sleep cycle have a higher predisposition to manifest mental health difficulties.

Keep Office Hours

If you are building a business or working on a side hustle having regular “office hours” and a place to work away from the television and hustle-bustle of the family goes a long way! Having a written plan of what you need to work on will save you a lot of wasted time.

Having a daily routine allows you to plan and carve out time to pursue your passion every single day.

Harness the Power of Consistency

Consistency will yield the highest rate of return on your efforts. Walking a half a mile a day for a month will produce far greater results and satisfaction than hitting it hard with a one-time 15-mile run.  This applies in all areas of our life and work.  Do you desire to write a book?  Schedule a regular time to write 750 words a day.  Do you desire to grow your income?  Speak with 3 potential clients a day.

I’ll close with one of my favorite sayings,
