Your Mess Can Become God’s Message

Your Mess Can Become God’s Message

I spent most of my life trying to be perfect. As a child of two alcoholics, my life was messy from the time I was born. Yet somehow I set out to be a perfect wife, mother, home school teacher, friend, and business owner. The challenge was not only would I never be “perfect”.  No one could relate to the “perfect” me – not even God!

“When Jesus heard this, he said, “Healthy people don’t need a doctor—sick people do.” Matt 9:12

Turns out it was the messy parts of my life that taught me the most about God.

I have since discovered, perhaps the hard way, that perfectionism is a form of pride.

Perfectionism is also a mask that we wear in hopes that no one will see us.  We somehow fear that if others could see us they would never love us.  Nothing is further from the truth.

The truth is God turns our messes into our message.

Our life, messes and all, is a powerful opportunity to showcase His Goodness.

When we trust God to carry us through a financial mess and He supplies our needs, it showcases what an amazing Provider He is.

As we cling to God and He walks with us through the valley of our deepest fears we put the Holy Spirit on display as the Comforter.

Learning to forgive those who have created our deepest scars and wounds carries the flag of His Grace to the world.

Did you know that when you attempt to cover your warts, flaws, and messes you actually keep others from seeing the faithfulness and goodness of God?

But how can people call on him for help if they’ve not yet believed? And how can they believe in one they’ve not yet heard of? And how can they hear the message of life if there is no one there to proclaim it? – Rom 10:14 TPT

So the next time you are tempted to attempt to be perfect, ask yourself who or what do I desire my life to showcase.  Here’s the amazing thing – In His eyes I already am perfect!  No striving will change that.  It is pure grace.

Our faith in Jesus transfers God’s righteousness to us and he now declares us flawless in his eyes. This means we can now enjoy true and lasting peacewith God, all because of what our Lord Jesus, the Anointed One, has done for us. Our faith guarantees us permanent access into this marvelous kindnessthat has given us a perfect relationship with God. What incredible joy bursts forth within us as we keep on celebrating our hope of experiencing God’s glory!” Rom 5:1-2 TPT

An example is the inspirational movie “I Can Only Imagine” It is the true story of  Bart Millard. After years of anger and running, Bart was able to demonstrate God’s grace and forgive his abusive father who was terminally ill. His experience later inspired Bart and his band Mercy Me to write the single  “I can only imagine”. The song became the best selling Christian single of all times.

The next time you are tempted to hide your mess consider asking God to redeem it and use it to touch a hurting world <3
